Founded in 2011 by Dr. Daniel Bernardi, an Iraq War Veteran (2009-10) and cinema scholar, Veteran Documentary Corps (VDC) is a non-profit organization in partnership with the Documentary Film Institute (DocFilm) at SFSU. The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and the Cinema Department at SFSU provided initial funding for the first ten films:

John Heroux, USAF, Persian Gulf War (directed by David Washburn)
Tim Kochis, U.S. Army, Vietnam War (directed by Daniel Bernardi)
Julie Mendez, U.S. Army, Iraq War (directed by Silvia Turchin)

The veterans and filmmakers work together to tell compelling, often gritty, and always truthful stories. The veteran has “final cut” on their respective project. Each veteran documentary is approved by the veteran before released to the public.
